Jostens Team Price brings inspiration and innovation to MIPA Camp
With their table lined with yearbook samples, feature sheets, and expert insight, Jostens Team Price returned to MIPA camp this week with one goal: helping student journalists create their best yearbooks yet.
“We’re here to represent our company, but also to help the students make the best yearbooks they can,” said Rianne Price, a representative with Jostens. “We hope to give them ideas and get them excited about their yearbook journey ahead.”
Stacy Smale, another member of Team Price and a former yearbook adviser, emphasized creativity and risk-taking when talking with students.
“My biggest tip would be to try something new,” Smale said. “A lot of schools stick to the same ladder or layout every year because it feels safe, but I encourage students to look at magazines, movie posters, or anything that inspires them.”
Jostens, a leading yearbook publishing company, offered resources, advice, and tools to both students and advisers during the vendor fair at the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association 2025 Summer Workshop on the campus of Michigan State University.
One highlight Jostens promoted was Monarch, its browser-based design program that functions similarly to Adobe InDesign.
“It’s something very unique,” Price said. “Along with all the workshop opportunities we offer and our hands-on support from representatives, we really try to provide tools that make a difference.”
Smale, who once taught a feature writing class at MIPA, said her favorite part of the camp is the community it builds.
“When you’re in your own school, you’re in a bubble,” she said. “It’s so powerful to come here and realize you’re not alone, and that there are students and advisers all over the state doing exactly what you’re doing.”
