Photography is a key aspect of journalism which is why Beyond The Basics, the beginner photojournalism class at MIPA camp, is a core class to the program.
Beyond the Basics is instructed by Ike Lea, who taught photography and digital imaging at Lansing Community College and spends each summer teaching MIPA students the basics of photojournalism. The third evening of camp, Ike assigned his students to take photos of political journalists Dave Clark, Jordan Hermani and Ian Kullgren as they participated in a panel. Ike’s students got to put the skills they had been learning in the classroom to action through this assignment and gain experience as photojournalists.
