‘Writing and Design for the Newspaper’ class prepares for sexting issue seminar, creates first news piece

On Aug. 1 in Room 242 of the Communication Arts Building, “Design and Writing for the Newspaper” students were hard at work learning how to create a news story.

Instructor Jody Mackey works with some of her students in the "Writing and Design for Newspaper" class on Aug. 1. The class teaches beginners the basics they need to know to be successful on their staffs. By Jason Greene / Upstart Staff

The students were researching that night’s issue seminar topic, sexting. The goal for them, according to instructor Jody Mackey, is to be somewhat knowledgeable at the seminar. She said her goal was for them to learn more, ask some questions and eventually write their news story later that evening. The class will then spend the next day and a half learning about newspaper writing and the rest of the week on newspaper design.

Students said they enjoyed the class and hope to make the best of this week.
