Commentary: Workshops directors discuss how they like to relax

August 1, 2012 by Amber Lee Carnahan Leave a Comment

When class gets out and we’re finally allowed a few minutes of relaxation, what do you do first? Do you hang out with your friends by the volleyball court? Do you read in your free time? Or maybe you just slip away to your dorm for a half-hour nap.

As for the MIPA workshops staff, they have very little downtime during this week, if any. So when they go home next week, what will they do to unwind?

“I spend time with my family,” says workshop director Chad Sanders. “We like to Geocache; that’s a fun thing. We also like disc golf and playing outside.”

Geocache, a treasure hunting game where participants use a GPS to hide and seek containers with other participants in the activity, is a fun game to play with family, as is Disc Golf, which is a flying disc game where individual players throw a flying disc at a target.

Student director Kirk Weber said he also enjoys spending time with his family in his free time. “I like to hang out with my kids and play around the yard,” he said.

The next time you get some time away from class, don’t forget that the administrators are always working. While we are off taking a nap or playing in the courtyard, they are busy working in the office and trying to make sure we have the best experience possible. Thanks to them we’re able to take advantage of MIPA’s journalism workshop.
