Students share thoughts minutes before Talent Show

August 2, 2012 by SamanthaVanHoef Leave a Comment

Students had the chance to participate in the annual MIPA Talent Show Weds. night. Class cheers were demonstrated and staff performances were held, but the Upstart caught up with the student acts minutes before their performances to ask, “What are you thinking right now?”

Cassie Bondie (singing): “I hate going first. Usually I sign up last on purpose so I can be last. But it’s cool because you get to know what the people think.”

Spark Sports (rapping): “If I mess up, my immediate reaction is to cuss wildly, so I’m hoping that won’t happen, but it won’t happen because I won’t mess up.”

Tyler Moreno (singing): “I’m worried if everyone will like it or not.”

Rene, Rachel and Jacob (singing/guitar): “Oh my gosh.”

Ali Smith (spoken word poetry): “I just don’t know…I’ve done this before but I’m kind of freakin’ out.”

Stoney Creek Source (suprise): “When my mom was reading me the list off, I thought it was ridiculous and funny. I didn’t know there would be a talent show…but we figured we’ll have fun with it at least.”

The Alligators (Awesomeness): “We came up with this today, but if anyone asks, we’ve been planning this all week. We told everyone we were teaching how to wrestle alligators, so that’s where the name came from.”

Bryanna Leach (singing): “I haven’t practiced. I performed this last week at the Ionia Idol competition but not since then. I wasn’t planning on performing, but my instructor signed me up.”

Megan Weaver (singing): “I feel like I need more practice. I feel like Celine Dion is also a better singer than I am, but a fortune cookie I got this week told me I should take more risks and make more changes, so I did.”

Results of the Talent show included a first place for the Stoney Creek Source for their performance including fans, a ukulele and the suggested packing list for MIPA campers.

Why The Curtains Are Blue: The Importance of Reading On Our Empathy

By Christina Karcher | Sophomore | Grosse Pointe South High School [This work comes from the Art of Storytelling class, taught by Julia Satterthwaite.] Ever since I knew how to string letters into words, and those words into sentences, I have loved to read. I would read for hours at a time, fiction about fairies […]

Careers in crayon

By Baity Wagner | senior | Wylie E. Groves High School [This work comes from the Art of Storytelling class, taught by Julia Satterthwaite.] I soaked in school like a sponge. I loved learning about shapes, addition and how to write a proper sentence. Despite the abundance of lessons that are thrown at you in […]
