Live concerts… at journalism camp? That’s right, MIPA.
Monday night will offer students a chance to take a break from their cameras and computers and listen live to the Ben Daniels’ Band. MIPA’s first-ever outdoor concert will take place in the Phillips-Snyder courtyard at 9 P.M.
This Lansing-originated band has produced six CDs and toured across the country. Their sound spans from reggae to hip-hop, with an undeniable old-school blues influence. Three of the band members, guitarist and lead vocalist Ben Daniels, guitarist George Merkel, bassist Tommy Reifel, formed the band in 2008. Later they were joined by Wesley Fritzemeir who plays drums, fiddle, trumpet, guitar, keyboard, and spoons.
The Ben Daniels’ band arrived on campus this afternoon to give a sneak preview on Michigan State University’s student radio station, Impact 89FM. Campers can check out the broadcast below for an interview with the band and live performances of their songs “Baby Doll,” “Dripping Indigo,” and “Spoon Fed.”
