On Aug. 2, the students in the Feature Coverage class shared leads they created for a possible feature story on the topic of sexting. Their instructor Stacy Smale individually critiqued each student, letting them know what they did well and what they need to work on.
“This project is perfect practice because I could be writing about similar issues in my schools newspaper in the future,” Loy Norrix High School student Adam Kemp said.
The Feature Coverage students will be attending the press conference with the Lansing Derby Vixens and conducting one on one interviews to create possible leads for personal profiles.
The class will also be collaborating with Dean Humes’s editors class where they will choose whether they want to proceed with either the sexting feature or Lansing Derby Vixens feature.
“It will be really nice for the students to experience actual editing from Dean’s class,” Smale said
They have a lot of work ahead, but according to Smale, the students are keeping up just fine.
“I’ve been really impressed with the level of writing the students brought to the class,” Smale said, “and what they have done to expand their skills.” By Alyssa Burko / Upstart Staff
