MIPA students interested in a challenge have signed up for the Bobby Hawthorne Experience.
This intense course is taught by Bobby Hawthorne, a journalist with 40 years of experience. He has taught this class for 8 years, and many other writing classes at MIPA before then.
“I always teach basically the same thing, it’s just a different name,” Hawthorne said.
Students will be writing several pieces, including personality portraits, features, and columns, throughout the week.
MIPA camper Savannah Weir was looking for a class to challenge herself and teach her to write for her future. She knew of the course’s rigor and Hawthorne’s experience and decided to give it a try.
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about him and this class,” she said.
Hawthorne hopes his students will gain valuable experience from the variety of writings they will be doing throughout the week. His main goal for them is to get over the uncertainty they have in interviews.
“I want them to get over the fear of talking to people,” Hawthorne said. “Because you can’t do this job if you don’t want to talk to people.”
According to him, students will overcome that fear with the experience they gain.
“They’re gonna be doing real writing, real interviewing, real stories,” Hawthorne said.

It seems like a fairly good start, but the information is basically all from the title. There are some quotes that are only one line and don’t give a lot of information. You could interview more people or take a different angle. Thank you for the opportunity to read your work!
