Yearbook kickstart is no doubt a great class. I walked into the classroom to be greeted by Mrs. Bunka standing on a table showing the class how to take different photos from different angles. Taking photos is much more complex than you would think, and that’s what this class is about.

Pam Bunka, the class instructor said, “If this is your first year as a yearbook student or at MIPA, this is the class to take.” This class teaches basic photography skills such as what is good lighting and what is a good angle to take photos from. After learning this, the students proceeded to take photos of each other from all different angles and with different lighting. The class not only teaches how to take a good photo, but also what to do with it. The students are going to be collecting photos throughout the week. They’re snapping shots of campers walking to and from class, leaving the dorms, eating lunch etc. At the end of the week, they are putting together a page spread on this week at camp. The students found it was much easier to be behind the camera instead of in front of it, so this project should be lots of fun for them!

Learning how to take a natural photo is one of their challenges and since they are taking photos of the volleyball tournament and variety show also, those will be perfect times to practice those skills. It looks like it’s going to be quite an enjoyable week for the yearbook kickstart staff! Wish them luck!
