While nearly 400 student journalists convened on Michigan State’s campus for the 2012 MIPA summer journalism workshops, they weren’t the only ones who said they were excited about the experience.
“I’m thrilled with the weather,” said Office Director Sunshine Weber, as she sat in an air conditioned office, sunlight flowing in from an opened window. “Normally it’s very hot, so it’s been very beautiful.”
Jayna Salk, part of MIPA’s office staff, said she is ecstatic about this year’s workshop. “It’s off to a great start,” she said. “Registration went pretty smoothly this year. Classes are going good; I feel like everyone loves it. I do know we have some very cool toys we’ll be giving out this year. (As) soon as we bust those out at lunch today, I know we’ll blow the roof off this place. It’ll be insane.”
Even associate director Rod Satterthwaite, who is serving in a new role this year, said he was excited to be part of the camp.
“My favorite part would have to be the people,” he said. “The faculty’s amazing, the staff’s incredible, and the kids just make the workshop.”
